Wet Coast Offense

The Eagles coasted to one of the more uncomfortable 20-point wins I've ever witnessed.  As a Philly fan, maybe I'm being a bit like a beaten dog, but the expectation has started to become wondering how they're going to blow it.  I know, I know — have some faith right?

Anyway, contrary to recent behavior, they came out of the gate pretty quickly — getting up 10-0 on a great pass to Stallworth and then 17-0 on a very fortunate and heads-up play by Buckhalter.  Then the pouring rains came and really bogged this game down.

The Washington offense was pretty offensive.  Controlling the ball for most of the first half, they Deadskins could only manage two FG attempts, one of which they made.  They had one legit chance to score, but it was broken up by a terrific play by Brian Dawkins.

There was a point in the 2nd quarter where the Eagles lapsed into what I like to call the Andy Reid Waltz:
    Run-for-two…
    Run-for-three…
    In-com-plete…
    Punt!

They managed to change that around in the second half, grinding out a good drive, that disappointingly ended with a chip shot FG after 3 shots from the 2 yard line (sigh).

As usual Westbrook shouldered a lot of the load — and he anchored a beautiful 9-minute drive to seal the game.  That was really good to see after a day when the offense had a couple of big plays, but few long drives.

So, 5 and 4 with what should be a gimme game against the Titans at home next week.

  1. Hey, The Eagles were good for me also. Poor Redskins lose their real offensive strength for who knows how long. Loved the Buckhalter awe-inspiring play of heads-upness! Now now now, gimme game is maybe a little too confident. Now as I am sure you know, I am a longtime Colts fan and Week 5 against the Titans was what I thought would be a "gimme game". We squeaked it out in the end, so it was ok. Don't sell the Titans short, Washington, Baltimore and Indiana would all tell you the same. Week 11 Titans vs Philly Philly wins.

  2. TRW — you're absolutely right about Tennessee. They've played a
lot of teams tough but have found a way not to win enough of them —
perhaps its those hideous TT uniforms I can't give any respect
to. Honestly, the way this Eagles team has played, I'm not sure anyone is a gimme (see Tampa Bay), but like you, I do think they'll win it.

  3. I shared your un-easiness during the game. the way the redskins moved the ball on them with the run was pretty bad. you have to be a pretty bad team to move the ball like that and only score 3 points. i know the birds tend to tighten up the D once they get to the about the 40 and get much more agressive. The upcoming Titans game is a classic "look past" game, but I think they will be OK only because of all the other games that were looked past. They HAVE to win, no choice in the matter. I just don't like the Eagles against the AFC, they also tend to look past these games! I agree about those friggin weird uniforms though, what is up with that? Eagles/Colts game got moved to Sunday night as part of flex scheduling, that should be a good one! Lets hope the Eagles give them their first loss!!
