QotD: Top Break-Up Song

What are your top five break-up songs?
Submitted by gt.

I don't really know about five, but this song is really one of my favorites — full of snarky goodness.  The Beloved says I like it so much because I used to treat women like this, but we all know that's not true.

Someday (You Will Be Loved)

Death Cab for Cutie

Also notable because Death Cab just released their latest album, Narrow Stairs, yesterday — so I've been all DCFC today.

  1. I was just going to say, "STEVE! HAVE YOU GOTTEN DCFC's NEW CD YET??" (Yes, I was planning on screaming it at you.) I'm planning on DLing it tonight but they performed last night on Letterman and I really liked the song.

  2. Jim's friend got him into Death Cab. I've only heard a song or two. They're not really a "happy" band are they? But that's OK – just not usually my type of music but I'm always willing to give anything a listen that the folks in my 'hood recommend.

  3. Death Cab made emo mainstream, although they're not nearly as depressing as Dashboard Confessional. They were my *favorite* band for a long time — as soon as The OC made them super popular — and now they're just one of my favorites, but still really good. Steve and I may have differing opinions on the best CD to acclimate yourself with, but I suggest Transatlanticism because of so many songs, but especially "A Lack of Color," which is one of my all-time favorite songs.

  4. Steph — I agree with Jen — you really couldn't go wrong with either of their last two albums (well, three if you count this one…). Even though its a bit of a "downer", I think they're writing some of the cleverest songs out there, and I really like that about them.
