Friday Drabble: Just One

Remember, a drabble is a very short story of exactly 100 words. Feel free to join in and write your own drabbles on Fridays and tag them with “friday drabble” and on Twitter with the hashtag #fridaydrabble.

Just One

“How many?” the all-black clad hostess asked, smiling.

Abby exhaled.  “Just one.”

The hostess’ smile faltered slightly, but remained in place as she led Abby to a table near the kitchen.

Sure, Abby thought, the crappy table for the solo diner.  It was okay.  She’d needed to muster her courage to start dining out alone.  She could do it.  Before, she’d been too self-conscious, her solitude an indictment – other diners clearly staring at her, judging her, sensing her uncertainty.  But Bill was gone and it was time to move on.

Besides, it’s not like they knew where the body was.
