The icy silence continued long after their dinners were cold. His plate picked over. Hers untouched. Finally, he spoke, “I think we should get a divorce…”
She hung her head.
“I won’t divorce you,” she said, surprised at her calm.
“Dammit! Why are you being so difficult?” he fumed, rising.
Of course, she knew all about his “secret” affair. Her best friend!
She raised a cool gaze to his eyes. They were blue – now bulging with the loss of respiration and, yes, a final realization about her undisturbed plate as he collapsed to the floor.
“I won’t have to.”
