Blogfestivus is a creative writing challenge issued by that spritely elf Blogdramedy. Twelve days of 144-word stories based on the popular “Twelve Days of Christmas” song. Day Four is “four calling birds”.
She’d had her phone on silent all day long as she decorated, but now the blinking green light had finally gotten to her.
“Hi hon,” her mom chirped. “I was just calling because I hadn’t heard from you in a couple of days and I wanted to make sure that you remembered…”

“Hey babe…” the guy from eHarmony who didn’t know how to take no for an answer cooed.

“I sent you a report to check a couple of hours ago,” squawked Gail, as in Gail-her-boss. “ I know it’s Sunday, but I really need your data. ASAP.”

‘Tis the Season to be jolly, after all.
Sigh. Why does this feel so familiar?
Nicely done.
Lauri, we should really do the holidays together as moral, grouch support!
Moral grouch support for the win! :)
I’m trying not to make them all — “get away from the holiday rat race” stories, but I don’t think I’m succeeding!
A nice take on the calling birds! And as length constraints go, how much richer 144 words are than 140 characters. :-)
phantomxii — it’s funny, I’ve been writing the Friday Drabbles, which are 100 words. These seem practically Tolstoy-ian by comparison!
Excellent take to the birds. Well done!
Gracias, LD! I liked the way this one came out.
Great story, Ste… Message Deleted.
Nice, Ebenezer Budd… :)
As someone who just got her very first answering machine last summer, I so get this post.
Cut throat. I love it. :-)
I’m a big believer in not being available 24/7… :)
This sounds like my kind of gal.
I’m always the most happy when I don’t have to talk to anyone… ;)
